| DESIGN NAME: Soner for Men PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wristwatch INSPIRATION: Ever since my first real adult watch that I bought over 15 years ago, I've never really been satisfied. There has always been something I have had a compromise about when buying a watch. If it's not the color, the shape or the quality, the price stopped my purchase. Almost 10 years ago now, I decided to learn how to produce a wristwatch, at the same time I began to save money to realize my dream of producing a watch that I don’t need to compromise with. But it took 10 years... UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A wristwatch with 3 unique characteristics. 1. We only design squared watches 2. We only design watches for men 3. We challenge the over 100 years old domination of round watches. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We believe, we have thought about the things are missing in comparable wristwatches and we have designed a watch which you don’t need to compromise with. The prices, design, weight and functions. It’s a watch made for being used in all situations, day to day work or weddings. It’s a water-resistant dress watch with leather strap that both feels and looks masculine. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The first ide popped up in my mind around 2004 and the watch was realized in April 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Boutte in stainless steel quality L316. Supper hard Sapphire glass Folded genuine leather strap which makes it water resistant. Arched backside which makes it fit perfectly around the wrist. Arched front which makes it slide under the cuff of the shirt. I got the idea of the square design when buying my first little more expensive watch for 10 years ago. When standing in the middle of the store and looked around I thought that every watch looked the same. Something was missing! There and then I came up with the idea of a squared watch. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 1.85 x 1.45 x 0.39 inch / 47 x 37 x 10 mm TAGS: wristwatch, watch, wrist watch, clock, mens watch RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There has not been much of a scientific research or approached. According to me there is a gap in the established watch market regarding too other than round watches. Sure, there is some square watches out there but no brand has done what we have done. Namely niched ourselves totally to the squared design, and it makes as unique and stand out. I got the idea of the square design when buying my first little more expensive watch for 10 years ago. When standing in the middle of the store and looked around I thought, every watch looked the same. Something was missing! There and then I came up with the idea of a squared watch. When decided I wanted to design my own watch I basically read everything I cold on the matter. Everything from choice of material, production techniques, plating to supplier management, environmental and ISO demands and import/export rules. CHALLENGE: The larges obstacles was to get a squared watch water-resistant. For a round watch you can have a round backside lid with integrated screw thread, and just screw the whole lid on, like on a jar. It would not look good on a squared watch. So we had design the boette to fit a squared backside and screw the lid on with 4 screws.
