| DESIGN NAME: Fire Ring PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fire fighting equipment INSPIRATION: The design is inspired in Previtop’s close relationship with architecture and care for the quality of living spaces. Outstanding spatial design encouraged the design team to take the leap towards changing the footing of fire safety equipment in architecture and interior design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Fire Ring was designed with exquisite and delicate spaces in mind, where design quality and attention to detail is a primary concern. Its unique characteristics stem not only from its design, but also its functionality, in particular by eliminating the traditional door and promoting a new way to open it. Fire Ring proposes to revolutionize the role of fire fighting equipment in architecture and interior design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Fire Ring merges a new configuration of the fire safety hose with Previtop’s purpose of reducing the visual noise of this type of equipment. Fire Ring can be easily operated by pulling the hose out of a gap in the cabinet and opening the nozzle with no effort. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2013 in Porto, and was exhibited for the first time in CONCRETA, Porto, 2013. Two years later, Fire Ring was selected to be part of the collective exhibition by AND - National Association of Designers. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As a national leader in fire safety equipment, Previtop was working with very familiar materials in the making of Fire Ring. With the right tools and knowledge in hand, the company’s research department looked at new ways of working with the main raw material: steel. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 650 x 650 x 260 / 650 x 650 x 270 Rim: 1mm galvanized steel plate Reel: galvanized plate Polyester painting in Ral 3000 according to En 671-1 Hose: Semi-rigid polyester reinforced Pvc hose according to En 694:2001+A1:2007 3 (20/25/30m) Nozzle: jet, spray, shut-off 25mm male inlet Pvc center with Ec marking sticker Cabinet: 2mm galvanized plate Polyester paint - Full Ral Sliding door for maintenance operations Drilled holes for mounting Available in stainless steel A304/A430 and Corten TAGS: Previtop, Fire Ring, Hose reel, Hose reel design, Fire fighting design, Exquisite design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Previtop’s goal was to bring to life a new product line focused in design quality for high-end spaces. After extensive research of the European norms, the team conceived every component of Fire Ring down to the finest detail, thus minimising the risk of error in the production process. Prototypes were produced in order to find weaknesses in the design and correct them before presenting it to the market. Ultimately, Previtop arrived at a completely new concept in the industry. CHALLENGE: Mastering the European norms and regulations in the sector was by far the biggest challenge in the design process. Fire Ring was developed according to European norm 671-1. To be able to design a unique fire hose reel while adhering to the industry’s strict regulations was a complex, but ultimately valuable undertaking for Previtop. Its activity is cantered on the production of protection and security equipment, evolving and innovating according current market demands, adapting its products to the required technical standards, quality, function and design. Since its beginning Previtop obtained a fast growth and profusion that allowed for the development of a solid and trustworthy structure with qualified staff to carry out all the services offered by the company. Currently, Previtop occupies a leading position among domestic companies operating in its segment. Previtop headquarters are located in Rio Tinto, Gondomar, Portugal and the company is registered in ANPC – Autoridade Nacional da Proteção Civil (The National Civil Protection Authority), is a member of APSEI and has EC Certified Products issued by CERTIF. In short, Previtop main challenges revolve around the development of design and quality products capable of competing with the main international brands. |
