DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Workwearstore Oberhausen

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Flagship Store

INSPIRATION:
The brand's DNA as a manufacturer of workwear goods was to be staged as a lifestyle product and implemented in a surprising, but honest manner into the new flagship store. Therefore, the working world of craftsmen and their emotional values play a fundamental role in the store design. Materials and tools from the customer's working environment are playfully and cleverly integrated into design and product presentation, creating emotional accents and providing references to the various craft professions.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
At times when future prospects for stationary trade are uncertain e-commerce brand for workwear, engelbert strauss, decided to give craftsmen physical shopping experiences. After designing workwear stores for Hockenheim, Munich-Bergkirchen and Biebergemünd, plajer & franz studio was commissioned to design a flagship store in Oberhausen. Every new workwear store is undergoing further development in response to dynamic product development and experience with existing stores.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Not only does the physical space of the flagship store create a real relation between customer and mailorder company engelber strauss. The materials and tools from the customer's working environment used to design the interior design and product presentation, set emotional accents and provide references to the various craft professions of the customers.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Opening October 2016 engelbert strauss Workwearstore Oberhausen Brammenring 121, 46047 Oberhausen

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The equipment of the craftsmen's working world forms the basis for the entire interior design of the flagship store. Scaffold boards made of scaffold planks, control cabinet doors, warning triangles, paint cans as well as corrugated and trapezoidal sheet metal create emotional accents and provide references to the various craft professions. With chandeliers made from miner's lamps and deco lights from customs poles, spirit levels or shovels, this concept is also applied to the lighting concept. Focus walls are color-matched with individual collections and provide a good orientation throughout the entire flagship store.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The flagship floor space is 2812 sqm, including business lounge and meeting rooms.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Implementing the world of craftsmen and construction people in the flagship store, required an analysis of the customers' values and tools as well as the brand's DNA as a manufacturer of workwear goods. Their products were to be staged as lifestyle goods and implemented in a surprising, but honest manner. Since the city of Oberhausen has a long mining tradition, the store's location features miner's lamps or shirt presentations in mine building style as part of the store design.

CHALLENGE:
In every project, architects face the usual challenges. Since our job requires flexibility, skill and imagination, modifications in layout and design are inevitable and also expected especially in large projects.
