DESIGN NAME: Electron
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendant Light Fixture
INSPIRATION: In physics, the electron is a subatomic particle with a negative elementary, electric charge. Electrons radiate energy in the form of protons when accelerated. Thus began the inspiration for the light that we designed and titled The Electron. The Electron pendant reflects the image and nature of its namesake. What emerged from our inspiration is a beautiful, simplistic design that can be used in a variety of decors.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Electron is a ceiling mounted led pendant luminaire for indoor use. It has a beautiful, simplistic design that is modern and futuristic in appearance. Led lighting technology enabled the creation of this unique design.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Electron is a pendant light fixture that is wired into a 12 volt led driver. The led driver is connected to line voltage. The electron is an energy efficient light as it uses led technology.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2016 and finished in February 2016. In September 2017, the product was updated to include new technological advancements.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Electron is made using aluminum sheet and frosted acrylic sheet. The aluminum is processed on cnc machines, and the acrylic is cut on a water jet machining center. An anodized finish is used on the aluminum parts, before all components are assembled and wired.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 250 mm diameter x 25.4 mm
Color: Anodized Clear, Black or Light Gold. Lamping: 12 volts LED's; 840 lumens, 3000K, 8.4 watts, Dimmable led driver

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The electron - a subatomic particle with a negative elementary electric charge - is the inspiration for the light that has been developed and titled "Electron". Our objective was to build a light with clean, finished lines and no exposed fasteners. Led technology has enabled us to design and build this light.
CHALLENGE: The greatest challenge is always product development. Finding an led that would run cool enough in the enclosed fixture was difficult.
