DESIGN NAME: The Frog
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Helmet support
INSPIRATION: Inspired by the shape and stickiness of a frogs fingers specifically the Brachycephalus tridactylus, a tiny frog discovered in 2007 in Brazil which, as its name tridactylus suggests is the only frog in the world with only three fingers.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Frog is the only and smallest portable one-piece stabilizer in the world thanks to its 3 support points, based on Euclid's theory and 3 fundamental conditions of its design: functionality, size and aesthetics. The frog stops all types of helmets rolling around and falling, keeping it safe from knocks and scratches and protecting its lining from contact with dirty and wet surfaces.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Frog is very simple to use. Choose either the zenith or back position, find the balance, clean the surface, center and hook the frog. When positioning to the helmet it is advisable to be decisive. The material of the gadget is designed to avoid it bouncing on almost any surface although the more gently that it is placed in position, the more easily it stabilises. The true usefulness of the frog, is directly related to the impossibility of trying to place a spherical object onto a flat surface.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Development of the idea, may 2013 Barcelona
Product development: november 2014 november 2017 Barcelona
The gadget has not been shown at any fair yet.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The frog is produced by plastic injection through a mold. The raw material is a transparent polyurethane (PUR) mixed with different master color masks, and for the double-sided adhesive, we use a 3M acrylic adhesive.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Type of investigation: Search for stability through an external gadget under the following conditions: find a single piece that offers maximum stability in the smallest possible size and thickness that is also aesthetically pleasing.Research objectives: investigate the shape of the gadget, its dimensions, materials, adhesion, durability, hardness & investigate the ideal adhesive. Finally to find the most suitable packaging.Methodology: Trial and error manufacturing pieces in plasticine, silicone and prototypes in 3d, Pvc, Pur, tpu, Nbr or Silicone…based on three points of support inspired by the principle of Euclid.Data collection and research tools used: Participants and experiments: Luis Moure, realization of the first prototypes. Cardet Plastics , mold manufacturing and injection testing and mold manufacturing for adhesive placement. Ramon Plastics, final injection production. Adhesives Fustier Barcelona 3m. Packaging, Del Rio cartons. Design of the piece, logo, slogan etc. Luis de Arquer. Technical realization of the design, Anna Huertas and Isc Plàstics.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of the process has been the choice of a material that meets all the conditions necessary for its execution: The material should have a necessary flexibility to prevent the helmet from bouncing when being positioned, should be adhesive, offer a wide range of colors, have a pleasant texture and good conditions for a correct and easy injection.
