DESIGN NAME: Royal French Architectural
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Show Flat
INSPIRATION: The design was inspired by the romantic French oriental fantasy. While China nowadays is catching up with the West, 300 years ago the West was fascinated by China. The oriental and occidental combined generated the unique Chinoiserie, French Chinese style. Now, the cultures of the two countries are integrated in the design to present the perfect blend of modern Eastern philosophy and classical French fashion.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Situated within the area of national Olympic center in Beijing with eight Art Deco style apartment buildings in the south zone accompanied by ten New classical grand mansions, this project is the best choice for new members among the modern aristocrats with its ideal location surrounded by the Olympic Central Park, National Forest Park, and the eight major golf courses.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The most difficult part for design is the corridor as the design needed to avoid making it too long, and to keep the connection between spaces. The final idea is to have an archway decorated with metal stripes to create space partition while maintain some rhythms and unity within. Between the master bedroom, the study and the second bedroom, a transition area is created for stopover, and to get rid of monotony.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The size of the whole property was not as big as a large luxurious villa. Yet the developer managed to optimize the original structure and achieved the luxurious villa standard of equipping one elevator per household per floor, thereby lifting the value of the property. The positioning of the project was not meant to show complicated luxuriousness, but have the exaltedness as a rare high-end choice within the Five Ring district in Beijing. Based on market research, the idea of the East and West mingled and blended with the exterior Art Deco style resulted as French Chinoiserie.
CHALLENGE: The walls in the building are in shear wall structure which has limits to ceiling height as well as to possible changes to the walls. When designing the ceiling, considering the actual conditions, we tried to use simple structure to make the ceiling as high as possible while keeping enough space for required installation of mechanical and electrical equipment. We also explored variation of distribution for lights to cheer up the atmosphere in the space.
