DESIGN NAME: Runze Palace B02
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Show Villa
INSPIRATION: The romantic design concept of life ratification believes that arts lie in the details of routine life. It is the refinement, sublimation and expression of life. Inspired by this, the style of this project follows the neoclassical as the main direction to present exotic elegance from the West, reproducing the classical scenes as in Phantom of the Opera, Turandot and Madame Butterfly as if the stories are hidden in the space for people to discover.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Beijing Runze Palace is the premier villa community in the national Olympic district, facing the largest urban green lung in Beijing, a national forest park in the west. The villas are spacious in size and exquisite in quality, representing the best urban villas. Its increasing value guarantees it as the best choice for residence and investment for domestic elites and from abroad.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The soft decoration attempts to reproduce the Eastern legend in western imagination. The utilization of gold outlined beast foot furniture of European style, Chippendale style bamboo furniture with Chinese flavor, and brass lamps in the shape of Chinese architecture, paintings of ancient Chinese characters as well as furnishings with strong dynastic and regional features intends to create a space with abundance, richness and stories. The colors on furnishings also bring into the domestic environment the splendor, boldness and gorgeousness one can feel from a stage performance.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: When receiving this project, we had a lot of discussion about the style and theme for the show flat. At the beginning, the client stated the expectation to have some exotic flavor, but our thorough analysis revealed that, considering the selling to various age groups of target customers with varied acceptance, as well as the construction cost and ceiling heights, it was not wise to have an over complicated design. In the end, the design was simplified to have more moderate fixtures while the furnishings focus on emphasizing the exotic passion.
CHALLENGE: To make the scale and proportion in the space more comfortable and reasonable, many structural changes were designed at the early stage. The living room was originally too small and the ceiling was too low, we had lowered the floor by 450mm and raised the ceiling to create a taller space. The original location of the dining room was a spacious room with the open ceiling to above and is visually connected to the master bedroom. As a result, the privacy of the master bedroom was compromised. Thus, we close the ceiling to above in the dining room so that the area upstairs can be used as the library.
