| DESIGN NAME: Burlington Hotel PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hotel Interior Design INSPIRATION: In Hong Kong, land for development is at an absolute premium and must be utilized to its fullest extent – that criteria also extends to hotel developments. Burlington Hotel is a boutique hotel with accommodations ranging from 11 to 25 sq.m., where the petite rooms certainly pose the biggest challenge for this project. The design process began with careful planning and configuration of the layout, effectively using every millimeter of each room whilst achieving a sense of spaciousness for guests UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design concept of Burlington Hotel is to achieve modernity and comfort within the maximum room size of 25 square meters based on the interplay of linearity and harmony through the use of colours and materials. Curvilinearity is consistently emphasised throughout the interior, with rounded corners from wall to ceiling creating a stylish atmosphere and providing a user-friendly and safe environment in small spaces. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2012 in Hong Kong and finished in February 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The moment stepping into the hotel, guests will find themselves walking above the contoured, contrasted marble floor and under the curvilinear profiled ceiling with lit acrylic tubes, mimicking the quiet night sky filled with glittering stars. A mixture of curved design features are introduced in the different room types situated in the high and low zones, creating various design approaches to the corridors and reception lobbies. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Completion Date: 01/02/2017 Project Budget: £5,000,000 Project Location: Wan Chai, Hong Kong Area: 3390 sq ft TAGS: Burlington Hotel, Hotel, Wan Chai, Hong Kong RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Deluxe Rooms are decorated with curved aluminium tubed backdrops, spiral upholstered headboards and waxy wood veneered wall panels, creating a repetitive yet rhythmic use of linear elements. This not only enhances the harmonic atmosphere, but also represents the unique, fluid lifestyle of people in Wan Chai and Hong Kong, under a fast-moving, vibrant setting. Similarly, the Suite is designed with a similar concept, using a rounded ceiling and curved corners (albeit in a more subtle and elegant way) with a focus on fine detailing such as handcrafted leather, floral artwork and helical patterned marble wall backdrop. A combination of all the interior elements will leave every hotel guest with a memorable experience in this Asia World City where size does matter.
