| DESIGN NAME: Triz PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp INSPIRATION: The intention behind Triz was to create a lamp 'for all places', not only in the sense of location, whether it's a bedroom, living room, restaurant or gallery, but also in relation to its function and whether it's suspended from the ceiling, placed on a table or wall mounted. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Elegant, minimal and versatile are the three defining characteristics of Triz. The singular design allows it to be wall mounted in a total of six orientations, suspended from the ceiling or placed on a flat surface. The mechanism for wall hanging (visible when suspended from the ceiling) has itself been designed as an aesthetic feature. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Triz is simple and easy to use. A single screw is all that is required to mount in on the wall and it can be suspended directly from the cord which can also be wired straight into the mains electricity supply. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Triz was handmade from solid hard woods (rose cedar with details in caxeta) using traditional woodworking methods. Dovetail splines were used to reinforce the joints. Special care was taken to account for wood movement due to temperature and humidity fluctuations. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 170mm x Depth 134mm x Height 145mm TAGS: Knót artesanal, lamp, illumination, solid wood, handmade RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The objective was to create a simple object with no 'extra bits'. The main area of consideration was with regards to basic geometric shapes and how they interact with the intended areas of use (wall/horizontal surface/free hanging). CHALLENGE: The principle challenge when designing Triz was regarding the wall mounting method. It was a requirement that this be simple and that it shouldn't merely not detract from the design aesthetically but should in fact enhance it. The keyhole slot was the most obvious solution in terms of functionality, a number of layouts were considered before settling on the dragonfly shape which allows for mounting in six different positions with a single screw.
