RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: Since this project was a renovation of a former educational facility, planning had to respect the existing shell. In order to create a functional layout, Machiya-style was appointed. Machiya is a traditional townhouses of Kyoto that has a narrow frontage stretching deep into the lot. Thus, most of the guest rooms are shaped rectangular in plan.
