DESIGN NAME: m.us.2
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wall Lamp
INSPIRATION: It was inspired by the cavities of the shells and their topological deformations. It was developed through a parametric software that alters the distortion degree of some primitive shapes, as a Möbius strip, a Klein bottle, among others, and then produced with an industrial 3d printer.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: m.us.2 has a complex shape and due to that, each angle/view is unique and different from each other, therefore its design is not monotonous, with very decorative shadows.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: You can use it as a Wall Lamp or a Ceiling Lamp, with direct or indirect light.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2017 in Sao Paulo and finished in August 2017 in Sao Paulo, and was exhibited in MADE fair in August 2017.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It is a one 3d printed plastic piece.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: +- 450mm Diameter x 200mm D

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main idea was to design a lamp in which the external side becomes an internal one, to an extent that it is hard to say what is external or internal, inspired by the Deleuzian questionings regarding surfaces. It is possible to choose where to place the LED light: outside of the lamp's cavities or inside one. Depending on the place that was chosen, the shadows projected on the wall change as well.
CHALLENGE: The most difficult part of developing the project was not only understanding the thinness this material allowed to be worked, but also its resistance capacity. A lot of tests were necessary to understand the direction of the lamp's holes /voids in order not to jeopardize the structural strength of the piece and, at the same time, allowing the light to pass softly.
