| DESIGN NAME: motub PRIMARY FUNCTION: Elderly Oriented Bathtub INSPIRATION: The aging trend of the world's population is increasing,and the care of the elderly is not enough. Many elderly people feel embarrassed in their later years, and the work intensity of nursing workers is also very strong. I find the activities in bathroom are dangerous for them, so I want to do something to improve it. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Disabled elders occupy a serious proportion in the aging population now, bathing is one of the most dangerous activities for disabled old people, and transferring disabled old man to the bathroom from the living room makes nursing staff mostly embarrassed. Motub bathtub is different from traditional mobile chair, old man can move on it from the bed or wheelchair forwardly with the help of nursing staff. Motub releases the heavy work intensity of staff, and bathing is more safe for elders. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Disabled old man can move on mobile chair from the bed or wheelchair forwardly with the help of nursing staff. Then, staff can move the chair into bathroom and lock it with the other part of bathtub. Meanwhile, the chair could slides along the orbit backward in order to get more bathing space. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2017 in Shanghai and finished in June 2017 in Shanghai, and was exhibited in Shanghai library in June 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main body adopts acrylic to form, acrylic has good thermal insulation and corrosion performance. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: DIMENSIONS: Width 760 mm x Depth 1200 mm x Height 1000 mm PACKAGE: Fission assembly TECHNICAL: The main body adopts acrylic to form TAGS: Tags, elderly, mobile, care RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Background: I did the fieldwork in 30 families that disabled elders live in. I observed their lifestyle and bathing habits, including nursing staff. I got the moving lines in bathroom of old man and staff. In the end, I found that transfer the disabled elder is an embarrassing painpoint. Methods: User research, Observation, Record. Tools: statistics, insight cards, journey map Participants: designer, users, nursing staffs, doctors Results: Bathing is one of the most dangerous activities for old men. Insights: I found that transfer the disabled elder is an embarrassing painpoint. CHALLENGE: In the fieldwork, I walked into the user home, and because the research contents involved personal privacy, many users and family members were reluctant to cooperate.
