DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Thetis

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Bracelet

INSPIRATION:
THETIS is inspired by the ocean and its beautiful creatures. By capturing and abstracting forms and movements of the fish tails, the design celebrates the magnificent nature using cutting-edge technology of 3D printing.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The elegant bracelet explores how jewellery transfers intangible movement of nature creatures, into tangible forms for this increasingly standardized world. This extravagant jewellery form enhance the body, creating subtle yet sensual lines in artifacts worn over clothing. By using the lexicon of curves and lines an essence is captured and translated into this vibrant piece of jewellery.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The strength of this bracelet is the curves within embodies the wearer's arm perfectly. The design of the open allows the wrist to slide in with just one move, and the extravagant form of this bracelet can be adapted and seen as either an accessory to the wrist or the arm according to the wearer's preference.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in April 2015 in Shanghai and finished in July 2015 in Rimini, and was featured in BAZAAR Jewelry.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The Thetis Bracelet is first 3D printed and casted into silver and assembled with great craftsmanship, 18ct gold plated.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
54mm - 73mm - 145mm

TAGS:
Organic, 3D Printing, Jewellery, Craftsmanship, Evening Jewel

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The research began with observation of beautiful sea creatures and developed with iterations to abstract the shape into nowadays modern language. What's more, careful measurements of the wearer's wrist size, back and forth experiments of functional options are also taken into consideration.

CHALLENGE:
The challenge occurred when it comes to bringing the fluid and intangible feeling into the design of an actual object. How to transform a piece of jewellery into an artefact of expression and echo when it's worn lies in the core of the process.
