DESIGN NAME: Balance
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Box
INSPIRATION: The swallows as acrobats of the air, are full of lightness and freedom. We associate them with positive feelings and beautiful moments.
When we feel joy and happiness, we are balanced inside of us. This inner calmness, which is found in nature, is over and over again a starting point for the formation of my ceramics for me.
The design Balance takes this balance as a poetical picture in a box up. The combination of the natural materials wood and ceramic is connecting to a well-balanced whole.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Balance is a box with spatial presence and poetical statement. It should neither be at the edge, nor hiding things. Rather seems the generously proportioned branch handle to grow out of the box. But he still keeps the balance to the box body and is a room for himself, in which necklaces and earrings can be presented.
The box body, held from three feeds, floats over the surface. The wood, the ceramic and the swallows form a closed harmonious world.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: You can use the box as a sugar box on your table or to serve Petit Four extraordinary. The box can also be your treasure chest, so you can keep your jewelry in it.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Erfurt/Germany in winter 2016. It was finished with a presentation of different prototypes at the Long Night of Museums in Erfurt, in may 2017.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My work is a research, which explores the connections between tradition and modernity.
A traditional manufacturing with natural materials is the base for my unobtrusive and aesthetic design.
Historical ceramic cultures and everyday observations and wishes are the inspiration for the development of this design language.
But its not enough to combine these perspectives - abstraction and interpretation are decisive for an individual design.
So i find always new answers when developing a new design, by asking the past and the present.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was to explore the maximum possible balance of top and branch and to go to the border of it. The top should not tilt because of a to sweeping branch, but the branch shall still be autonomous and should grow out of the top without consideration to the box.
