DESIGN NAME: Empress Wu
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp
INSPIRATION: The inspiration of the project has born by observing the production of Ming furniture and the formal language used for those objects. We have identified the profile of the back of the chairs as a very special line and very closely linked to the Ming tradition. This line has become a wooden profile that embraces a bright sphere that resumes the centuries-old Chinese devotion to the moon as an abstract idea and a natural element of man's life.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The concept of this lamp is direct, dry, and intelligent. There is no space for useless decoration, it is elegant and refined thanks to the selected natural materials, it identifies immediately the type of production it refers to and is an original design that has never been seen before.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The lamp is designed to be available in all 5 versions: Wall Lamp, Ceiling Lamp, Hanging Lamp, Table Lamp, Floor Lamp. In this way it can be coordinated in all the situations to create a unique style in all the rooms.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project has been developed in Milan in a week in September 2017 for the WDC tender

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project represents another opportunity to link the cultural traditions of two different geographic areas. In today's world, integration is the most important concept and different cultures must learn to live peacefully together. The union of peoples also goes through the creation of design objects that combine cultures.
CHALLENGE: The most difficult part of project has been to find a formal solution to mix the millenary ming tradition with a contemporary European language
