DESIGN NAME: Modern Folklore
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Women's Designer Fashion
INSPIRATION: Out in the European countryside, there live traditional costumes that people have spent a lifetime (or more) making. Painstaking techniques are used to create their beautiful pieces which are then handed down to younger generations. These Museum worthy pieces are what inspire this collection. Re-worked for a modern woman who loves living in luxury. Fabrics are inspired by natural and sustainable living.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This collection features hand drawn motifs and explicit attention to details. Traditional motifs which have been interpreted and translated into colorful embroideries.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: These fashions are meant to be worn. :-)
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Made in Germany, by a California Girl. 2015-2016
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The styles are neatly constructed inside and out, and feature top quality highly-polished zippers, hook and eye closures at the top of the zippers, understiching, two piece straps, linings, adjustability, Baby hems, and bra forms.
The embroidery was Hand drawn from inspiration images. Then the Images were digitized, colored, engineered onto the pattern. Then the artwork was converted into embroidery and tested many times. The final result was completed using a 16-needle production embroidery machine. The entire process was operated by the designer herself, and very tedius. Each element of the embroidery has a unique density, places to separate elements, and stitch direction to give it the ideal 'moulded' shape. The colors are raised up from the fabric. The golden thread is metallic, and lends itself to a much lighter appearance and density to give it a feeling of metal-lace.
After the embroidery stage, the styles were hand cut. The embroidery pieces can not be 2mm off placement.
Sewing was finished on a Bernina 710. Seams are pressed open and triple process as each edge is 4 thread Baby locked.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This group is densely embroidered onto cotton canvas or sustainable Tencel. Tencel is a fabric that is made from Eucalyptus tree fibres. Tencel emits zero emissions, and is completely non-toxic. The dress in the main image has over 20,000 stitches.

Mini dress inspired by the movie Clueless.
Maxi Dress reworked from a classic Hollywood vintage gown.
CHALLENGE: Time Management is by far the biggest challenge. This is a one woman operation and I do everything by myself.
Another big and time consuming challenge is to get the embroidery to 'mould' correctly. Stitch directions, density, finding the right fabric backings, and tear-aways to prevent puckering.
