| DESIGN NAME: felt stone rug PRIMARY FUNCTION: Runner INSPIRATION: I love travelling and collect stones as memory of every place, I have visit. Inspired by a numerous collections of different stones of many regions, mountains and seashores I started to design/create a rug with an optical incentive as well as a haptic effect. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The faithfully recreated felt stones look like real stones, rocks and pebbles out of the sea or a river. Optically and before entering the rug you would expect riverstones, which feels uncomfortable under the soles of the feet. But these stones underwent an artistic metamorphosis. On the basis of a soft core every rock squeezes under pressure and offers a haptic effect. The backing of the a rug is a transparent non slipping mat. Stones are sewed together and with the mat. Neutral shades complement the organic natural look and feel of the rug. The rug is created for daily life and can be washed in a standard washing machine. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Design Optical: to create felt stones similar to stones, rocks and pebbles - take in account different sizes, shapes, colours (including venes or mosseffects on the stones) haptical: stones should be very soft Usability: it should be used in daily life (rug can be washed in a standard washing machine!) Functionality: size and shape of the rug should be individual / stones should be fixed together but also with a non slipping mat to move bigger pieces without any problem PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Bobingen - Germany approx. 4 months FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Handmade Stones - neddle and wet felting Fixed/sewed on a transparent non slipping mat Material: different natural woolfibres (sheep, lambs, alpaca, lama) - neutral shades complement the organic natural look of the stones, foam SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions like width and depth are variable - also shape is totaly free. The high of the rug is from 1,2cm to 3,5cm ... different highs give the rug a 3D effect and make the look natural. TAGS: stone rug, felt stone rug, rock rug, pebble rug, wool stone rug, felt, felt rock rug, felt stone RESEARCH ABSTRACT: to make stones squeezing a foam core is surrounded by wool, during the felting process wool shrink but the foam core stay sturdy. also the felt process is dependent on the wool fibre ... a lot of test CHALLENGE: 1 challenge: to create felt stones look like a stone but they should be very soft 2 challenge: not only good design - it should be usable in daily life (rugs can be washed in the washing machine) 3 challenge: size and shape of the rug should individual / stones should be fixed together but also with a non slipping mat to move bigger pieces without any problem ADDED DATE: 2017-09-07 12:18:05 TEAM MEMBERS (1) : IMAGE CREDITS: Martina Schuhmann, 2017. NAME: Flussdesign Martina Schuhmann GmbH PROFILE: Felt Stone rug - under the brand flussdesign rugs and bath mats made of felt stones are distributed. Different styles are offered - the design nominated for the award was specially developed for a private customer. The stone rug is made with stones in different highs and sizes. The surface varies like in the nature. Basic color of stones is similar but the venes on the stones are made of different colors. Some of them have a moss effect. Each stone is different to another. |
