DESIGN NAME: In's Café
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee shop
INSPIRATION: The site is a garage from residential house, situated at suburb of Taichung city, nearby a mountain climbing tour spot, and the owner wished to create a secret garden supplying fine coffee and desserts among nature surroundings. Inspiring from the artwork, Cafe Voltaire, a reconstruction of French street brasserie from the old times. Dark color tonal appearance, teal color matches dark smoked wood sashes, which is virile, a bit masculine, but also distinctly elegant.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Besides the reconstruction of old time French coffee house, considering the site geographical advances, this project combines the idea of alfresco courtyard cafe. Green plant wall and pine fence panels complete the greenhouse at the front area, and the other face of colonial window grid affords a panoramic view to customers. Juxtapose with French/Viennese furniture pieces, culminating a French classic but undertones of contemporary and nostalgia.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Two areas sustain different vibes greenhouse courtyard seats permeating botanic breezes with more connection to nature whereas indoor seats in dark color tonal, provides higher privacy.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Fill and level up the original slope of garage by herringbone flooring in vintage assorted shades. Build a greenhouse at the front courtyard, and extend retro vibes of French brasserie into indoor rooms. The antique brown solid wood kitchen prominently dominates the space, and alongside distressed tin tiles attracts another attention, giving warm touches of handcrafts.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To reconstruct a nostalgic cafe, need studies of durability for commercial spaces, and details of classic icons. How to provide comfortable greenhouse surroundings when extreme sunlight in summer is another concern.
