DESIGN NAME: Alpine 3D puzzle
PRIMARY FUNCTION: 3d Puzzle
INSPIRATION: children world is a place of imagination, where storytelling takes place, where abstract things become concrete. Puzzles pieces are printed in green, brown/red and grey to symbolise 3 types of typical alpine landscape- meadows, forest floor and rocks. But also the change of seasons: spring/summer, autumn and winter (snow). The animals are abstract but they all have a little twist, its own character. The mountain elements have holes that symbolises natural bridges or windows, or create valleys.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is huge 3d wooden puzzle, developed for the Slovene alpine museum- a tool to get to know Julian alps, through free composing or focused workshops. It consists of 3 main groups of elements: big puzzles of different thickness to create valleys and hills; 17 elements of typical flora and fauna; mountain ranges to complete a full Julian alps ring- or to create it freely, in lineal or perpendicular way. it is a tool, but also a spacial installation, a toy and a learning technique.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The first ideas in August 2015. Execution between January and April 2017. it is placed in Slovene alpine museum in Mojstrana, Slovenia

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Animals drawn upon hand-drawn illustrations.
Birch plywood- 18, 24 mm- puzzle elements and mountains
beech plywood- 8mm- animals
Cnc cut, printed and protected with water varnish, animals oiled with tunga oil. Hand- sanded
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: up to 250/ 250 cm. Depending on the way it is assembled

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Firstly the logic was thought through, most open possible. Afterwards a thorough study of the typical animals and plants was done. Drawing of all the flora/ fauna elements in most abstract way. Protoype was cut.
CHALLENGE: Developing the logic of puzzle in the way that would appeal to children of different ages, that could be as open as possible and used in as many different way as possible
