| DESIGN NAME: Spot PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Sofa INSPIRATION: The inspiration came from the perception of the new ways of using space and the new habits of the contemporary everyday life, as well as from the desire to stimulate human relations, often forgotten, creating a welcoming and functional environment in which everything happens and memories can be created. spot combines materials and coatings, such as Freijo wood, leather-covered painted steel and knitted fabric, that complement each other in order to create a cozy tactile environment. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: spot is a comfortable sofa that with the addition of several accessories to its structure can be used to study, work, place and store objects, and recharge electronic devices. It offers more than one option of configuration. Backrest length and number of arms can be chosen, for example, creating different combinations to suit several layouts and needs while adapting to both large and small spaces, the latter benefiting from the add-on accessories that supply in one place the needs of a room. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Its differential advantage are the many functions performed by its add-on accessories. The desk placed in the back of the backrest, intended for studying and leisure-related activities, can also function as a sideboard. The arms and shelf can be used to place personal items. The wooden side box with two lids and sliding tray not only facilitates the access to the everyday objects that can be stored in it, but also functions as a side table and has two sockets for recharging electronic devices. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in December 2016 in Sao Paulo, Brazil and was shown to the public in June 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The arm, desk and shelf are made from steel plate that is laser cut, folded, welded, electrostatically coated and then upholstered with genuine leather. The backrest, made from wood and Freijo veneer, has a slope of 10 degrees and is only 35 mm thick. The seat is structured with Cedar wood and springs, and padded with foam, while the cushions are padded with feathers. The single-sized side box is covered with Freijo veneer and made through traditional woodworking techniques. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 3200 x Depth 940 x Height 730 mm All parts, seat, backrest and attachments (side box, arms, desk and shelf) can be dismantled for transportation. TAGS: Sofa, Multifunctional, Comfort, Cozy, Wood, Steel, Desk, Box, Shelf, Brazil RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The use of living rooms as spaces of interaction and coexistence, as well as the habits of the contemporary everyday life, were investigated with the objective of identifying behavioral changes in families and their real needs within the family room. From this research, it became clear that there is a need for study and work areas, for a space to place and store objects and for an electronics charging station in the room. The design of this sofa attempts to fulfill these needs. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to meet the needs of the contemporary individual, offering a new way of looking at the furniture that surrounds our daily life in order to provide well-being in a welcoming and functional environment that stimulates human relations and interaction with objects. The idea is that, at the same time one is using the add-on desk, one can engage with those sitting on the couch watching television or even recharging electronic devices in the sockets available on the side box.
