DESIGN NAME: Glens Backup Reading Glasses
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Reading Glasses
INSPIRATION: The idea for the Glens reading glasses was born out of my personal need. Due to active lifestyle I spend a lot of time traveling for business. I had often felt the need to have a pair of backup reading glasses, which I could just keep in my wallet, store in a book as a bookmark, take along on the plane or carry round in my back pocket.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Glens backup reading glasses are an easy solution if you don not have your regular glasses with you. Glasses are made of high quality co-polyester and weight less than a gram. They are very small: 78mm x 21 mm x 1 mm and the package is as thin as a credit-card, so you can put them even in the smallest wallet, pocket or phone case. Glasses can be worn on any part of the nose. Due to their extra light weight, they will sit perfectly on almost every nose type.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Grip Glens glasses with three fingers using three special points on the bridge. Place them on your nose as you feel comfortable. The closer to the eyes, the lager is the field of view.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project strated in May of 2014 and finished in May 2016 In Estonia.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There was made a special device to set the shape for the prototype of designed item. Then was made a research of the bridge radius. For that was collected the data from people with different nose types and then was found the average number.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part was to find a solution that will be suitable for all. it was necessary to make drawings for the prototype, then to make a mold. There were too many assumptions. It is difficult to make a calculation without having a prototype. And it is impossible to make a sample of optical quality manually. Therefore, 4 molds were made before we have made the right one.
