| DESIGN NAME: Upsk8 No.3 Mosaik PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bracelet Jewelry INSPIRATION: “– Skateboarding is fun, freedom I can enjoy every single day. It’s also learning to stand and rise above fear, fails and barriers, ... no fear, no pain, no gain … a perfect drill for life " I also wish to inspire people to upcycle/recycle for a better futur. I aslo want to bring joy and excitement via my designs, using the media and the special features of the matter I have choosen; and wood is a new and very promising material for a jewelry designer as me. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Bracelet made of re-used skateboard decks Each skate decks are made of 7 plys of mapple tree, often colored ; I’m personally very inspired about this amazing material . I can choose among the used skate’s deck the ones matching or simply pleasing me, then I assemble and follow my design, giving a new life to things dedicated yet for a bright new life. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: First of all is to collect used skateboards, then de-glue the grip tape, then prepare the boards, as would be new raw material, and organize them to select the colors pattern. After setting the raw material begin the game of geometrical calculation and prototyping, then finally making the master piece as this one, the really doingness this unique piece at the workshop is more than 50 hours . PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: created in 2016, selected at Artisitar in Milano and touring in several exhibition during 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: When I started to create this project, I figured out to pass over all I have done before, breaking the rules and going above all I have done before as an aesthetic level. And I also set to join the 3 fields not really connected even not in my working process : jewelry-upcycling-sk SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: size 150mm/50mm TAGS: contemporary jewelry, cedric chevalley, upsk8, bracelet, skateboarding, skate, sk8, bijoux contemporains, bijou contemporain, createur de bijoux, upcycling, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As a jewelry designer for more than 16 years, I used to get submerged by successfull collection, and by daily work. In this kind of creating process I do not follow any given rules , I can fully unleashed my creativity and use this to ad millestone in the futur. as a therapy for own creativity but also for my congeners. CHALLENGE: This kind of contemporary jewelry designs breaks the rules of jewelry making; it doesn't fit with any expectation of what we would wait of a piece of jewelry, not from its size, neither from its material nor from it's design . Despite of that it gets its place on the main scene, it becomes naturally admiration and attraction as precious jewelry does also. NAME: Cedric Chevalley PROFILE: Cedric Chevalley, Swiss designer is also addicted to skateboarding! This, combined with design, drove him to create jewelry made of upcycled skateboards. Fuckyeah! upcycled sk8 jewelry was created by Swiss designer Cedric Chevalley, a self-confessed skateboarding addict! This passion combined with design drove him to create jewelry that would rise up out of the graves of broken and dead skateboards to be what is now up-cycled skateboard jewelry. |
