DESIGN NAME: Solving Wool Mysteries
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Organic Wool Coat
INSPIRATION: I believe that fashion is an effective way to convey a message, serving a higher purpose other then merely improving appearances. This is why I make coats from environmentally friendly produced fabrics. Each design is unisex and there are no gender boundaries. My main purpose and inspiration is fashion design for causes I care about. This collection is an exploration of consciousness, aiming to spread awareness of animal care and a more sustainable way of life.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This collection stands for gender equality and environmental protection through fashion as an art form. To reach equality between men and women, we must challenge traditional gender roles. This unisex collection of wool coats supports that journey: each jacket celebrates both male and female figures. The fabrics are organic and sustainably sourced, and 10% of the returns are donated to dog shelters in Amsterdam and Moscow.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Biker jackets are typically made from leather, which requires the death of an animal. I wanted to challenge norms and make a jacket from organic sustainable and eco friendly materials. That is why I chose wool. In order to certify wool as organic, it must be produced according to recognised standards which forbids hormones and genetic engineering on sheep, as well as synthetic pesticides on pastureland. The sheep cannot be treated with parasiticides which can be toxic to both the animal and people exposed to them. I believe organic fabrics make my jackets more durable, comfortable and fair, as opposed to traditional leather alternative.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The work on the collection took place in Moscow in April 2017 and finished in May 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I took a month off work and travelled home to Moscow to focus on Design. I sourced the fabric locally, and the production also took place in Moscow where I made 10 coats for women and 10 coats for men. This collection came along quite organically: I had a vision to transform a classic biker jacket mainly associated with leather, and make an alternative organic and fair option. The first biker jacket was made from black wool, and when exploring alternative colour schemes I decided to manually colour a white piece of wool light blue. At first I did not consider it a suitable colour for men, but the idea of challenging gender roles intrigued me.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Each coat from the collection is handcrafted and made from organic fabrics like wool, cotton and silk. The light blue biker jacket is made from organic wool, with blue silk lining. Available in Men's Medium (width 55cm - height 65cm, weight 90g) or Women's Small (width 44cm - height 60cm, weight 70g).

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Fashion industry is one of the most polluted industries in the world, causing social, political and environmental problems. Now a garment can cost less then a few euros. It has to be harvested, treated, sewn, knitted, cut, stitched, packaged, transported, if not fully paid by the consumer, the true cost is paid by our planet. It’s important to pay attention to where and how garments are made, which fabrics are used. It is essential to respect human and ecological rights. That’s why StillSveta has chosen to be an active participant of a more sustainable way of life, with a strong dedication to shaping the future of the industry.
CHALLENGE: One of the challenges of this collection is the idea of gender fluidity. Unisex clothes are not yet accepted by society as a norm, this suggests that the sexes are not yet truly equal. The solution is to blur that line, in order to demonstrate freedom of sexual roles.
