DESIGN NAME: Jungle Collection
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Upholstery Fabric
INSPIRATION: 2015, in Milan, while having a pizza i saw a tree close to our table. The contrast of the greenery in a concrete city gave me the inspiration to create an indoors (and outdoors) jungle.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Jungle is a mix of various elements combined in a way that makes sense as a whole. The blend of basic water-colour and digital shapes render a pattern that truly represents the lush, dense aspect of the jungle. Its contemporary design, the vivid colours and the its multiple uses make it unique and easily recognisable.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design is digitally printed onto a fabric suitable for both curtains and upholstery use. It performs well in out-door use as well. The design can be modified and change its scale according to the size or item that it will be used on. This versatility can give better results when it comes to its usage, as the pattern wont seem too small on a large piece of furniture and it will still be well shown on a small cushion.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started as an idea in April 2015 in Milan and it was completed in 15th August 2015. Launching the product in January 2016, in Paris Maison et Objet.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The green parts and the butterflies were hand made using water colours with brush on a canvas. The background leaf grid was designed using a digital pen on a sketch pad. When all items were designed, they were scanned and imported into a computer, edited and put together using the Adobe Photoshop. The important part was to make the strict grid, to blend into the soft drawings and produce a balanced design. The design was then digitally printed on a combination of reused old, 400gsm fabrics.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After the idea was born, I have started my research based on the relevant fabrics available in the market. Looking at the color trends of the current year and the years after, as well as the type of leaves, insects, and various details. Several trips that took place during the phase of research gave me the opportunity to capture some well-framed images. The internet use was another huge tool for my research where I came across Christian Lacroix’s JARDIN EXO'CHIC fabric, which was undoubtedly a design that gave me the most influence.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of the design process was to combine the two different concepts (the geometric background and the water-color made drawings) as well as mixing all the bright colors together without resulting in a busy pattern.
Another challenge was to create a pattern that would follow the trends of fashion and interior design but still be something completely different and easily recognisable.
