| DESIGN NAME: Avanti PRIMARY FUNCTION: Elegant Car INSPIRATION: New exotic cars are all the same. The great designs from these companies certainly excite me. But only temporarily, they don't st UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Avanti is a traditional racer. It is not practical and it is not the most technologically advanced. Its honest and utterly beautiful. It is designed to be in a category of its own with a target market more concerned abo OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Turning the car on is a simple but elegant process that I have tried to make feel as effortless and luxurious as possible. It operates with the use of a beautiful key fob that also doubles as a timepiece. You simply slide in the key and press the Start/Stop button while you foot is on the brake and viola, it purrs to life. Then once you are finished enjoying your time, you just eject the key by pushing inwards and then you are free to continue using the fob as a pocket watch. This makes it possible to carry Avanti wherever you go and helps develop a personal connection to the car. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2016 in Ipswich and was completed in 2017. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Avanti has a two tone aluminium body, peppered with rivets and venting. The signature 3 dot vents along the side at the rear are set in a copper surround. This provides a focal point as well as ample venting for the engine that sits directly behind the driver. It is placed close to the centre to achieve great weight distribution. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 Seconds and 0 to 100 mph in 8 seconds. 6 Speed Automatic paddle shift. Pure aluminium body hand crafted over a tubular aluminium frame. The panelling is made up of aluminium beaten over a aluminium frame. As well as this there are leather straps that hold down the engine cover. TAGS: car, concept, car concept, automotive, automotive design, supercar, race car, elegant, f1 RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Looking at track cars as well as luxury 'retro inspired' cars, I was able to determine a client that has needs that are not being catered for. As well as this I researched the classic car market, especially the luxury classic cars. From this it is clear there is a lot of money spent around these design themes and that placing Avanti above all modern day companies to match the price point of a classic luxury car, gives people a wider variety and help move it away from stiffer competition. CHALLENGE: The biggest obstacle to overcome is funding. While the car is fully realised it has yet to be produced further. A prototype will be the next stage in the process however to do this funds need to be raised. It is imperative that the design remains the same and keeps its unique character and to do this, the funding needs to be large as expensive materials will be used. As well as this the manufacturing process will be time consuming, with many parts needing to be individually milled out. NAME: Macchina Design PROFILE: This is Macchina. Macchina is a company set up by Ross Compton that provides automotive styling and unique coach building. It specialises in unique, retro inspired designs while also producing hyper modern concepts. Not only does this platform allow Macchina to advertise itself but it enables a chance to connect with people across generations. Currently Macchina is seeking funding to allow it to grow and develop the car concepts fully and realise them into production worthy cars. Macchina will produce one off cars, as well as very limited production cars. This is to keep demand high and retain exclusivity. In a different approach to most manufactures, you cannot order a car directly. First you must apply and be selected to gain the right to order. In this way, they ensure the most deserved people receive the chance to own a Macchina designed car. Being rich will not give you an advantage. |
