DESIGN NAME: SiVola
PRIMARY FUNCTION: 35 Mt Motor Yacht
INSPIRATION: The main design purpose of SiVola is to communicate speed, strength, robustness achieving the objective to create a unique solid shape, aggressive like a supercar and comfortable like a superyacht at the same time. SiVola exterior design gets inspiration by the military aeronautic and car design industry in order to generate an organic shape that recalls to a fighter aircraft or a supercar. This process allows to abandon the traditional yacht design features, made by blocks and to avoid the copy and paste effect that often occur in yacht design with the intent of getting some elements from other design fields.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A large and deep studio on the surfaces has been done, in order to integrate all those elements that contribute to obtain an aggressive look, like spoilers, air inlets, escapes, grids, sleek lines and muscles in one unique and organic shape. If on one hand we have the aggressive look, on the other we can’t miss the comfort aspect. The whole design is a continuous communication between these two components. An example of this dualism can be found on the sun deck, traditionally considered a comfort element and in this case integrated in the shape like if it was an aircraft wing.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The most peculiar aspect of this design Command Dome, it lays on the wings of the sun deck and allows a panoramic 360 view like on a fighter aircraft. Once you arrive in bay it can be opened on top.
In order to achieve a top comfort condition on board SiVola has been provided by many lounge areas on main and sun deck, with bar and Jacuzzi. A big window allows the internal lounge bow area to communicate with the pool area.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: the project started in March 2017 in Florence and finisched in may 2017.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research work for this design has moved with the intent to find a timeless look, that doesn't feel obsolete just after few years but that can last over the taste and trend changing. For this purpose a big research has been done over the military and super car industry, that are a very solid example how certain lines are always actual, and they can be considered a "classic". The Main resources for this work were books and internet, collecting a large amount of images as examples of many solutions adopted in the design of this kind of industrial products.
CHALLENGE: The main creative challenge has been to maintain an high standard of comfort, compared with the directs competitors, and at the same time achieve an aggressive look. The most habitable volume would be a box, like buildings, so anytime we try to sculpt this volume, with muscles, sleek lines, curved surfaces, we take some habitability off. All the things that fit in a same length motoryacht had to fit in the aerodynamic profile of SiVola: interior heights, sundeck furniture, pool and lounge areas, crew area.
