PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Bag
INSPIRATION: After spending 10 years in NYC, the designer is eager to make cities of his homeland as distinctive as NYC. He believes that physical buildings of a city are confined in their geographical locations whereas fashion can go beyond the impression of a place into lifestyle and identity that people can long for and imagine from. The design is created under this vision. Product made from daily material with unique aesthetics can be seen as a urban moving scene once sold to the global market.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design is fully inspired by color-stripe canvas, it can be ubiquitously seen in the market, stores and temporarily setup space in Taiwan.It used to be treated as ugly and old-school. Our design turns the much undervalued product into a trendy and yet functional fashion accessory which can perfectly fit creative professionals' lifestyle. Regardless in the form of a tote, messenger bag, a hand bag, or sports bag, only when users start to make it part of life, each angle of design, each functional dimension will start delineate its own neat aesthetics.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Color-Stripe canvas frequently used in Taiwanese’ daily urban surroundings. They made up a large portion of cityscape - street vendors, outdoor catering, etc.The color-stripe canvas used to be treated as ugly and old-school. Our design turns the much undervalued product into a trendy and yet functional fashion accessory which can perfectly fit your creative lifestyle, running around in formal, leisure and social occasions. You can transform the bag to tote model, messenger model or bike model whenever you like, whenever you need!
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2015 and finished in December 2016, and both the design and manufacture are in Taiwan. It was exhibited in Fashion Source at Shenzhen in Oct.2017 and rewarded Golden Pin Design Award in 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Color-Stripe canvas frequently used in Taiwanese’ daily urban surroundings. They made up a large portion of cityscape - street vendors, outdoor catering, etc. Because of its superior wear-resistance, all our designs are more durable than cotton canvas goods. However, it also challenges our craftsmanship and tailoring skills. Only leather-goods level sewing table would be able to achieve high fashion’s details and quality which we aim for.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our team understand the increasing need of a fashion accessory that serves users’ intense and constant shifts in and out of various urban settings has not been fulfilled. We have been searching the material that can best present Taiwan local urban impression while resonating with foreign customers’ functional needs and taste. This cannot be achieved by regular luxury fashion accessories due to their normal material use of leather. Even though leather tends to be deemed naturally pertaining to luxury goods, it does not serve new users’ demand for chic while functional needs incurred from daily activities. Therefore, water-proof-PVC with innate colorful stripes which speaks to these two seemly opposite needs comes immediately to our design team’s mind.
CHALLENGE: During the prototyping process, the most challenging part is to demand industrial-use material to be processed as high standard as those easily manipulated materials which high fashion accessories are made of. Regular fabric sewing machines cannot be used as they cannot bear the thickness and slipperiness of the canvas. However, the industrial machine cannot achieve the neatness of sewing lines that we demand as high standard as leather goods. Therefore, both craftsmanship and technical aspects taken into consideration form a challenging and the most selective process to decide on the manufacturer to partner with. In addition, because of founder’s architect background, the design principal, One Piece Without Additional Cuts, even poses more challenges to the manufacturers. This principle takes more efforts to overcome when we want the design to be mulch-functional while all the forms serving different uses need to be inspired and follow how the innate stripes are laid out on the material per se.
