DESIGN NAME: Ipek Shampoo
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shampoo Bottle
INSPIRATION: In order to reflect brand image of Ipek, a modern and feminine packaging design based on powerful woman concept was prepared. Ipek means silk. That's why to refer the brand’s name, the design was heated with silk fabric wave alike details.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ipek targeted to change its masculine and dull appearance for renewal. A packaging design based on powerful woman concept was prepared for it. The design was heated with silk fabric wave alike details. Feminine look and ergonomics were supported with curvy form of the bottle. Cap was designed in a more masculine style to emphasize clean up performance of the product.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A new bottle design was prepared to fit the current production line, which works with an annual capacity of 10 million bottles, of the client. Thus, extra investment costs were avoided.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2015 and finished in March 2016 in Istanbul/Turkey

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Online research was conducted for the project. Several samples related hair care product packaging and different bottle designs were collected and examined. Latest trends in bottle design and marketing, good and bad design examples, shortcomings of the category were all noted. Thus, the design process was started with a detailed knowledge of the competitors and category.
CHALLENGE: Since value for money is an important concern for economy segment, the main challenge of the project was to increase visual appeal preserving sizeable look of the bottle.
