DESIGN NAME: Olo
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendant Lamp
INSPIRATION: A connector that I designed on one of my other lights inspired the design for the Olo pendant light. The mini fuse is the same light, except the top and bottom caps are flat versus domed shaped. Put the two together, and you have a "Bullet Shaped" light.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Olo is a unique design, a custom designed peanut, bullet, shaped light. The interesting part of this light is its interchangeability with the mini fuse light.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The light is low voltage. Using a 12V magnetic dimmable driver the light can be powered up.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started as an conceptual idea in the Spring of 2016. The idea was put to paper in August 2016. The project was completed in September 2016.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Olo is an led pendant luminaire that is crafted using solid billet aluminum and solid cast acrylic rod. The parts were first drafted out in Auto Cad. Computer numerical control programs were then written on our cnc lathe. The top cap, diffuser and bottom cap were all processed on the cnc lathe. The aluminum parts have a brushed finish applied on the exposed surfaces. The parts are then sent for anodizing. The aluminum is anodized in silver or light gold to resemble brass. The illumination uses a micro led G4 bipin bulb.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Olo is 88.9mm high and is 38.1 mm in diameter. The light is 12 Volt and can operate with AC or DC current.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our design began with a concept that resided in the mind of our team leader. The concept was put to paper by using Auto-CAD drafting software. Using our computer numerical controlled software, programs were written to enable our machines to cut out the parts.
CHALLENGE: The challenge in any product is how do we get the design to work. It is easy to come up with a concept, it is not so easy to make a concept work. Once the shape of the light was decided upon, we had to figure out how to make the top and bottom caps connect to the diffuser, and how to connect the socket to the light. All of these little details have to be figured out.
