| DESIGN NAME: Darkside PRIMARY FUNCTION: Stool or Side Table INSPIRATION: In the 1970s the collective hipgnosis created the iconic cover of the album The Dark Side Of The Moon (Pink Floyd) - a prism that reflected a white light, separating color by color. The idea of the Darkside stool was to deconstruct the work, to separate it by color, form and texture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Using stainless steel and acrylic, the Darkside is a stool or sidetable that makes a good impression in your living room or even in your bedroom. The design is totally rock and roll and it reminds you one of the greatest albums of all times, every time you look at it. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Darkside stool is a unique piece. The acrylic makes it looks fragile, but it is so thick that almost everyone could use it as a stool. The base structure is stainless steel painted in black. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Stainless Steel and Acrylic SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 400 mm x Depth 400 mm x Height 450 mm TAGS: Colors, Stainless Steel, Contemporary, Industrial, Furniture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We did not have a place in our town to make the acrylic cut, so we went to the closest city that had it to get the seat of the Darkside. Since we had the seat, the base chosen was stainless steel. We looked for places that worked with weld. Usually the welders work with windows, doors and gates. It was hard to find a worker who would have the skills and the good will to embrace our ideas. In the welders shop we had the support and the experience of our new friend to make the Darkside stool. CHALLENGE: Finding the place to make the acrylic cut was definitely the hardest part. In our town there wasn't many business places able to make that cut. The acrylic seat to support a person needed to be thick and solid. At first, the idea was to make a stool. In the middle of the project, we decided to enlarge the stool a bit and make the acrylic structure thicker, so we could use it as a stool and as a side table. The stainless steel base is very solid and objective.
