DESIGN NAME: Aragogue
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Luminaire
INSPIRATION: We wanted to create a industrial/contemporary luminaire for the dining table for one of the interior design projects that me and my partner were working with. The first idea was to use stainless steel and paint the luminaire with a bright color. The second idea was to be very asymmetric and use sharp edges on the design. We thought the luminaire could be the highlight of the apartment, since that, we painted the luminaire in pink and placed above the dining table right in the middle of the apartment.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a unique luminaire. The design is totally asymmetric. It is made of stainless steel material. This piece was designed to a specific client who wanted his dining table space showing a strong personality without being conflicting with the rest of the apartment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Using a standard switch, you can turn on/off the luminaire.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was made in 2016. Brazil, Santos, Sao Paulo.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: the chosen material was stainless steel. We looked for places that worked with weld. Usually the welders work with windows, doors and gates. It was hard to find a worker who would have the skills and the good will to embrace our ideas. In the welders shop we had the support and the experience of our new friend to make the aragogue luminaire.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Height 400 mm x Width 1800 mm x Depth 350 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Since we knew the material we were able to use, the stainless steel, we started to run into places that worked with weld. Usually the welders work with windows, doors and gates. It was hard to find a worker who had the skills and the good will to embrace our ideas. In the welders shop we had the support and the experience of our new friend to make the Aragogue luminaire. With the luminaire done, we reached an electrician professional and he made the electric part of the Aragogue luminaire.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part definitely was how to hide the electric part. The material needed to be light and enduring. With a cylindrical stainless steel tube, we were able to pass the wires into it. The project was made in a beach city, very humid, so the stainless steel was used instead of iron in the luminaire. The rust could not get the material anymore, but then the problem was that the stainless steel was a bit heavy. To solve it, a lighter cylindrical tube was used.
