| DESIGN NAME: Razzmatazz PRIMARY FUNCTION: Night Club Bar INSPIRATION: Razzmatazz is the ultimate immersive brand experience, inspired by Persian and Azeri rugs and related elements. Oriental rugs were used traditionally as story books: into it were woven patterns, colours and symbols full of meaning, often poetic or extraordinary..all this content is magnified within the interiors as physical and emotional sensations. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A late night cocktail bar with DJ, cosy and intimate yet full of innovation and surprises: instead of looking at a single rug on a floor...Razzmatazz is experienced as flying inside a rug. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is an evening cocktail bar with DJ PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design process took 5 months in London. Much of the time was taken to model lighting in many possible configurations. The programming of all lighting scenes took 38h on site. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The floor is covered by a custom wool carpet. The same pattern is used for walls and ceilings which are covered in specially designed leather panels shaped like flowers behind which over 2,000 metres of RGB LED lights were installed. Then the entire lighting scenography is controlled by DMX protocol linked to the LED circuits and low resolution video screens. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 150 SqM space of lounge seating and bar cocktail bar TAGS: razzmatazz, lounge bar, persian carpet, Henry Chebaane, blue sky hospitality, modern oriental bar concept, magic carpet interior design, fantastical interiors RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was conducted in several Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries to learn about the cultural and fabrication aspects of carpet making. Research was made also about how to tell a story without using words just through changes of lighting scenography. CHALLENGE: The space was a challenge because it has no daylight and no street access. So the aim was to make it a speakeasy destination, a kind of secret place where people would forget the outside world for a moment of magic. How to take a craft that is always the same over thousand of years and make it into an innovative experience with modern technology?
