| DESIGN NAME: Fireworks PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant INSPIRATION: Fascinated by how the element of fire has shaped culinary and cultural landscapes for centuries, Designer Henry Chebaane has created a totally unusual dining experience, avant-garde while also referencing regional cultural heritage such as the myth of Prometeus stealing fire from Zeus on top of the Caucasus, the Persian hero Bayram Gur hunting dragons, the natural fire mountain Yanar Dag and ancient Zoroastrian fire temples. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A place high in symbolism, aesthetic drama, kinetic stimulations and taste sensations. At the entrance are two dragon skulls: one male and one female represent the mythology of fire: opposite but complementary natural forces (yin/yang, heat/oxygen) that starts fire and sustain the full life cycle on Earth. Fireworks is entered via a ceremonial canopy of glowing metal rods, translucent bricks and wooden blocks symbolising the ritualistic elements of grilling and roasting with live fire. These elements are repeated throughout the space on walls and ceilings in different compositions of light, shadow and textures. Born of fire: an exclusive piece of 4-Dimensional conceptual art: a composition of several hundreds walnut bricks cracked open by a massive lighting bolt, revealing a metalised glass surface that softly glows in red and amber tones, evolving throughout the day and night. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a restaurant space to entertain and surprise people, aiming to create a new experience of dining. There is a variety of lighting effects that transform the perception of the space from lunch all the way to dinner and late night. The aim is that people can visit for food and drinks many times and not get bored. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: project took 5 months to research lighting effects and write the scenography, then 6 months to design from London. Delivered and opened in Baku end of 2014. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The lighting scenography is enabled via DMX protocol programmed to simulate various lighting and fire effects. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 470 SqM restaurant and bar space with private dining, show kitchen and outside terrace TAGS: fireworks, new age steakhouse, Henry Chebaane, blue sky hospitality, grill concept, lighting scenography, theatrical dining, unusual concept RESEARCH ABSTRACT: research in the Caucasus and Caspian regions, into the philosophy and legends about fire, cultural relevance of fire in various people but particularly in Turkey, Georgia, Persia and Central Asia. CHALLENGE: the challenge was to create a steakhouse like no other, an innovative space that can accommodate and please most age groups.
