Adaptable multipurpose carpet
My main inspiration for this product was to find an easy solution to be able to offer an area rug which can convert into a large carpet and cover larger areas, for easy transport.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The rugs are made in rhombs and hexagons, easy to place
next to each other with an antislip surface. Perfect to
cover floors and even for the walls to reduce disturbing
There are many different possibilities to combine the different rhomb and hexagon components. You can easy change from a small area rug to a wall to wall carpet. Easy to clean and exchange the components.
It is possible for the customer to order larger or smaller
hexagons with the additional rhombs according to the
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
It is possible to cover small or large areas. Just place the rug pieces next to each other , you can easy make different formations . form large hexagons, just adding more rhombuses.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The development of this product started in march 2016 in Stocholm and was then exhibited at the Stockholm furniture fair 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The rug pieces are hand tufted in pure wool, with some bamboo silk mixed in for extra shine. The lines are embroidered, with banana fiber.
Each component has rubber antislip triangles attached to stay perfectly in place. The blue rug components are printed on pure wool.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Each side of the rhomb component is 630 mm.
The sides of the hexagon component have also the same dimensions.

For the blue rugs printed on wool I did a lot of research, to find a company who could print on wool. Got a lot help of my daughter with the illustrator file to place the rhombs in the best possible way, as the width of the printing machine in Germany was only 2m wide. For the hand tufted pink components , the main focus was to find a practical solution for the antislip part.
The illustrate file had to be changed twice totally, as the lines in the design where to thin to be visible for the printing process.
