DESIGN NAME: Fantasia
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multi-Occasional Sunglasses
INSPIRATION: Having the background of designing eyewears for several years, I always had this concept of designing a customizable eyewear in mind, that the user could have a role in choosing the final shape of the glasses to suit the specific occasion that the product is being used in. Furthermore, the contibution of the user to the assembling process would create an emotional bond between the user and the product.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The idea is to design an interactive, user-friendly multi-occasional pair of sunglasses that covers diverse fashion senses without being limited to a certain age or gender. This is a 3-piece pair of sunglasses that includes a main (lower) piece plus the lenses, and two replaceable pieces which are the upper shape and the temples. The user can assemble the pieces in 3 simple steps. Therefore, he/she will have plenty of shapes to choose from for different occasions, by buying only one product.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This product is made of 3 pieces:
1. The Base (lower) piece plus the lenses,
2. The upper shape
3. The temples.
The user can assemble the pieces in 3 simple steps:
The first step is to match the upper shape on the base and fix it by plugging the embedded piece on the base into the intended empty space on the upper shape.
Secondly, the temple is attached to the completed shape by plugging in the small screw-shape piece on the temple into a small hole on the main base.
Thirdly, the temple is fixed by rotating it just one round.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2016 in Tehran and finished in September 2016 in the same place, Tehran.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Considering the mechanism of assembling the pieces together, specifically matching and fixing pieces that create the main shape of the glasses, the best production method would be injection, using high-quality Carbon or TR90 as the material.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The glasses are designed according to ergonomic factors of different face shapes, so the final product will come out in standard sizes to cover almost every face type and size.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: According to a field research among a group of product end-users and concerning the production possibilities, "Product Customizability" was considered as the basis of the design of "Fantasia", the Multi-Occasional Sunglasses. Key insights were also around "Ergonomics" and "Simplicity of Use" along with keeping up with the high-paced fashionable lifestyle of the users.
CHALLENGE: There were two significant challenges throughout the whole process;
The first one was to come up with a standard base which could be matched by different upper shapes.
The next challenge was designing a mechanism for assembling the pieces together so that it wouldn't be complicated for the user.
