| DESIGN NAME: Kitten PRIMARY FUNCTION: Stool INSPIRATION: Kitten Stool was designed with three things in mind: It had to be beautiful and easy to manufacture and transport. The stool would also be a contrast between seemingly opposing, yet complimenting concepts, like the brightness of the colors with the grayness of the seats, and the coldness of the steel with the warmth of the felt, and also, the (apparently) heaviness of the metal sheet with the lightness of the felt. The stool was also meant to be soft to sit on, making the user feel as if she was floating, countering with this comfiness the lack of a backrest. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The stool is eco-friendly. Its body is made of folded and cut recycled aluminum while the seat is made of recycled PET felt. The seats are removable and interchangeable between stools, and the owners can even make their own seats and customize the stools further. The stool is easy to ship. It can be piled one on top of the other and the seat attached in site. It's materials make it perfect for indoors or outdoors. The stool is slightly curved to give it structural strength. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The stool is customizable by the user. The felt seat can be removed and interchanged between 3 available options, each with a different texture. Furthermore, the user can design their own seat and easily make it and use it. The materials of the stool make it ideal to use it either indoors or outdoors without deterioration. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started on December 2016 in Madrid and was completely developed by the end of March. It's in production now. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Recycled Aluminium and recycled PET felt. There is also a pair of wooden or steel rods to attach the seat to the stool. The base of the stool also has a plastic strip called an edge guard, to protect the floor from the stool. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Height: 45 cm. Width: 55 cm. aprox. TAGS: stool, sustainable, ecofriendly, colorful, recycled, seat, felt, aluminium RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We avoided research in this project by making the stool with materials and techniques that are not just extremely simple, but also very well known to us. In this way, we cut the time of design and were able to produce results in a shorter period of time. CHALLENGE: The hardest part is finding the right manufacturer that can produce the piece without ordering thousands of pieces, because producing one piece may be expensive, but when it's produced industrially, the costs and production time decrease dramatically, making it an extremely piece of furniture to produce.
