DESIGN NAME: Office Tower
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Facade Lighting
INSPIRATION: The lighting concept builds on the architects concept of OnCube. The juxtaposition of volumes create the result of -One cube, One reflection- which shows how the volumes and grids are highlighted with light.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The uniqueness of the design is that each light fixture has a specific place and function, there are no useless luminaries around the building. The building and its structure looks clean, elegant and the brightness of the light together with the animations are well controlled. The light only highlight specific areas keeping the shape of the building and do not interfere with the interiors.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The lighting animation evolves around the blue band, and is the only colour piece in the design. The gradient effect of the top cube mirrors the bottom and adhering to the concept of reflection. Its gradient effect plays with ones perception of the buildings height and scale. Animations are on a slow cycle throughout the evening via control timers.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2014 and finished in February 2017 in Shanghai

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The use of specialized, 360 degree LED projectors mounted at the base of each -square- bay, allowed the team to precisely apply lighting on all of its 4 sides, despite its narrow width. The end result is a glowing lit latticework of squares, making the aluminum structure appear as if it has been lit from within.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The lighting fixtures placed on each bay of the facade are small and discreet from iGuzzini.
In the middle part linear RGB color changing light fixtures from Philips Lighting.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To implement the concept of the reflected cube visible from different points, the lighting design team together with the architects studied and developed many ways to mount the luminaries. After testing different lighting fixtures the team found The building is becoming a milestone for the public around the neighborhood.
CHALLENGE: The lighting designer’s challenge was to articulate the feature -square- façade skin with an integrated lighting solution that blended seamlessly with the architecture.
