| DESIGN NAME: FIUME PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee table INSPIRATION: Fiume means river in Italian, and the shapes of this tables takes inspiration from the thin rounded stones that you can find on riverbeds. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Fiume is a family of coffee tables made in marble. The system consists of three different shapes and sizes for the table top and three different hight for the legs. Legs have three different hight in order to give the chance to partially overlap the tables. Customer can choose both color and dimension for the table top and legs hight. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A close cooperation between client and design studio is at the basis of this project. The right selection of stones, thickness and technical aspect together with the look over the entire system and the poetic aspect of the project. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Six months. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Tabletops in marble, shaped with CNC machinery and toughen with fiberglass on the bottom. Wooden legs turned and cut with CNC machinery. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Three different sizes and shapes for the tabletops. Three different hight for the legs. TAGS: Fiume, Furniture, Coffeetable, Marble, System, Italy, MrSmithStudio, Pietredimonitillo RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our research started by looking to nature. The shapes of this tables takes inspiration from the shape of the stones that you can find on riverbeds. Than, together with the company we defined the right thickness of the marble in order to have reasonable price and weight. We've designed the rounded edge with and asymmetrical curve in order to have a more natural look. CHALLENGE: The main focus was to have a whole system of side table with an affordable price but a sophisticated look. The materials selected and the overlapping feature gave this sophisticated look tat we were looking for.
