| DESIGN NAME: Surfwave PRIMARY FUNCTION: Outdoor Bench INSPIRATION: Surfwave represents the shape of a squared nose surfboard mounted on a wooden pier. It is inspired in the multi-tone classic surf-boards artwork. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Surfwave is a two-seater outdoor bench. The top surface features an arrange of colorful stained and natural wooden rails, mounted on a solid-wood base frame. It is protected against UV and moisture, by an epoxy resin coating. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As a free-standing outdoor bench, Surfwave is suitable for outdoors. It intends to provide a fresh style through the combination of simple shapes, and vivid colors. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The first version of the Surfwave was designed and developed in 2014 as an individual furniture piece for a private customer located in the Caribbean. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The top and base-frame are made from solid ash wood, stained and sealed with epoxy resin. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 180 mm x 50 mm x 45 mm TAGS: Outdoor, bench, modern, furniture, exterior RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The goal of the project is to offer a freestanding two-seater outdoor bench in the manor of the iconic squared nose surfboards. CHALLENGE: The major challenge was the woodworking of the base-frame central joints, because of its non-coplanarity.
