| DESIGN NAME: Cubic Slim PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: I was inspired by the idea of creating something new and interesting by combining furniture and lighting, two familiar things that I have designed before. I thought about an armchair where you can read a book without needing a separate light by the chair. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Cubic Slim is a combination of furniture and lighting. There are LED lights inside the arm rest pieces, which transform the armchair to a source of soft light. The chair is a result of carefully planned minimalistic dimensioning. Viewed from the front, back or side, all angles form a unified, harmonious whole. Cubic Slim is more than a chair, it is like a piece of art. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The arm rests have a place for a drink and small wooden parts for your hands. The handles make it easy for even elderly persons to rise up from the chair. If desired, the LED lights can be adjusted to change color or brightness. Cubic is suitable for both domestic and public use. Placed either alone as the centerpiece of a room, or several chairs in a group, the illumination creates a unique, exciting atmosphere. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Cubic Slim was designed in 2016. It was exhibited in Top Design Fuorisalone, Milan in April 2016. In 2017 Cubic Slim was invited for exhibition Venice Design 2017 at la Biennale de Venezia. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The chair has a steady, painted metal frame with metal net details and colorful leather upholstery. The arm rest pieces are made of plastic and have LED-lights inside. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 750 mm x 750 mm x 750 mm. TAGS: armchair, multifunctional, lighting, LED, cubic, colorful RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For this project I researched different kinds of LED lights. The brightness, color and temperature of the light are important factors that affect the whole design. CHALLENGE: Cubic Slim required careful planning in terms of dimensioning.
