Teawood (East Point City)
Taiwanese Cafe & Restaurant
Designers take the initial of the East Point City, EPC to formulate its design concept Electric Power Cube to make it gimmicky and easy to memorize. Inspired by the geographic and demographic elements, designers aim to create a lively and energetic environment for this restaurant. The new developed district is full of young professional and students which enjoy adventure also explore new things and technology.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Full of energetic and dynamic icons are in the restaurant to match this new developed district in Hong Kong. Teawood at East Point City with design concept Electric Power Cube to show a funny mechanical design. Ceiling light in cube, feature wall with gear wheels embrace the variant ambience to attract young generation. The circuit liked bronze track on the wall connected the whole restaurant into the theme. Visitor is recharged for their body and mind after dining.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Customer is attracted by the two cube lightings at the front door and then come to a sign ‘Get Shocked! Square in 3-Dimension Power without Limitation’ when entering the restaurant and the design concept will be printed on their mind and lead them to the end of the restaurant to discover the feature wall with gear wheels. Along the walking, the wall on both sides decorated with bronze strips intimated the electric circuit connected the whole restaurant.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This project started in August 2016 and finished in January 2017 in Hong Kong.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Simple, clear and sharp line for the interior design and its furniture and lights avoid cumbersome. Lighting cube is made of many thin lines instead of handing a solid cube to show the detailed and dedicated craftsmanship and presents classy life style.

Research on the form of electricity through journals and then create different kinds of graphics to show the electric power. Invite target audience with sample size of 100 to select their favorite icon which represents the best electric power or association with electric power. Around 20 icons are selected after analyzing the questionnaires. Moreover, site visit of the district to discover the dining habit of target customer to tailor the seat setting in the restaurant by maximize the number of table for 2.
Lighting control is a challenge of the project, which involves indoor and outdoor area which should preserve the mood and style’s integrity. Spot lights are applied near curtain window to reduce the reflection of the glass and balance the sunlight and nightlight outside the store at different time. Another challenge comes from the L shape of layout which customer refuses to be seat at the end of another side, however, the funny design concept draw customers curiosity to explore in this restaurant.
