DESIGN NAME: Quick
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cordless Iron
INSPIRATION: The starting point of the project has been the study of new generation's habits in terms of ironing. Millennials in fact, differently from the previous generation, spend less time in ironing and do it more frequently than in the past.
Having as target users who iron just one or two clothes per day (for example those people who have to wear a shirt for working) has brought to change the traditional shape of the object, in order to make the ironing process faster in every phase.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Quick is a cordless iron which can be quickly set up to be used, designed for those who iron very often but for a short time.
The traditional shape of the iron has been changed: it becomes more compact thanks to the water tank which is the handle itself.
A basement has been introduced in order to heat the iron every time the user lays it, thus providing a correct temperature of the plate without the bother of the wire.
The iron is no more just a functional object to hide after having used it. It becomes a ready-to-be-used object to show on a shelf or a desk like it happens for shaving razors.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The kit is composed of the iron and the charging base.
The iron is divided into two parts: the main body and the handle.
The handle is the water tank itself. Between the main body and the handle, there are the circular controls, where the user can set the iron's power, and a circular LED that becomes blue when the iron needs to be charged into the base. In the opposite side of the handle, there is a button that allows steam to come out.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Ironing habits are changing.
Young people spend less time in ironing but do it more frequently than their mothers did in the past.
From this modern behaviour has born the necessity to have a more compact iron quicker to be used than the current products.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of our design process has been reinventing the iron aesthetic. Because of the traditional iron shape, that has been the same since the beginning, the risk was to realise an object that people wouldn't have understood easily.
