DESIGN NAME: Stage for an Award Presentation
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Award presentation
INSPIRATION: This event was inspired by the idea to give an adequate frame which matches the quality of the awards and gives a State of the Art environment to each different presentations.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This stage is supposed to have an unique look and be flexible enough to have a music show and awards presentations as well as presentations of achievements.
The set pieces are mainly internally lit to allow this flexibility.
This is an annual, non-profit event.
As there are several speeches and multiple awards, there are
elements which fly in during the show.
The event was held on the 11th of March in Ruth Eckert Hall in Clearwater, Florida.
I have uploaded several shots which show the different looks.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We get the designs and plans turned over to the sets shop. There starts the work to get the pieces broken down for the different cutting machines and we work out how the parts get shipped best, before we start to produce the set pieces.
This includes also to decide which materials are best to achieve the look of the design.
We then get the set parts machined, assembled and painted. in this case, we add LEDs inside of the set pieces before they ship.
We load the truck and off goes the stage to be set up on site in one day.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: It took the sets shop one months to produce all parts of this stage and get them shipped from Los Angeles to Florida for the event.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We have a sets shop with 8 crew members, who are specialized in building stages for events.
Our shop is equipped with several CNC machines up to a robot with 8 axis for 360 degree cuts.
For this event, we mainly built internally lit set pieces which gives a lot of additional possibilities for the live event.
The main materials we use are Styrofoam, wood, Aluminum and LEDs.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: We build the stages in Los Angeles and ship them to the specific event locations. In this case, the stage was shipped per truck to Florida.
Based on the shipping, we build the set pieces in units which can be easy assembled on site and enable a load in of one day.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There are several objectives we have to meet when we build a stage.
1. It needs to look exactly like the design
2. It needs to ship cost efficient
3. It needs to be set up within one day on site
Based on the above, we work out what materials are used and how we treat them.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part for this stage was to integrate all the different looks of the presentations in a way that it looks different each time, but there are only few set pieces change outs during the event.
This was achieved with the internally lighting and with reducing the width of the set pieces so other pieces can fly in and give a fast change of the look.
