| DESIGN NAME: SUPERNOVA PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring/Earring Jewelry set INSPIRATION: It is about rebirth, nirvana, the power to live a new life or a self breakthrough. Through artistic imagination, I have the idea of associating the design with astronomical phenomena about supernova. There is a brilliant new star at the center and a circular-shaped design turning inside out at the center. The design presents the process of stellar nirvana with huge energy revived. After throwing away the old and decayed body to the universe which will burst into the universe 5,700 times brighter than our Sun, everything will fall calmly back to the smallest grain of dust. However, it is not the end of life but a rebirth. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The electroplated black part with inlaid blue zircon and electroplated white part with inlaid colorless zircon strengthen color contrast and visual impact. The ear stud and eardrop are detachable, being applicable for various occasions like a dinner party or enjoying leisure time. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The earrings are divided into two parts, ear studs and the eardrops. Ear studs can be worn alone, also can be worn with the eardrops. Ear studs are in form of small stars which are inlaid with tiny shiny pure white zircon, and are very fit for women to wear everyday. Above the eardrops, there is a small ring which can let the ear studs through and be used to wear with the ear studs. Wearing it this way is more eye-catching and very suitable for high-profile occasions. As to the color of these two earrings' main body, one is deeper while one is lighter. The wearer can choose only. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2016 and finished in September 2016 in Beijing China. |

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I have fantasized about the universe and stars since I was a child. And human’s life is comparable to that of stars. A brand new life starts after we coming into the world. Those breakup, giving up and perseverance we have met, and changes we have made every time along the road of life represent the rebirth of our lives like nirvana of Phoenix, perfecting our lives again and again. This change is bright like a supernova, which is where my design inspiration is from. Then, born out of my design combining life with the universe and the theme of exploring the universe and new life. CHALLENGE: At first the design was a two-dimensional image, but in order to better reflect "the star rebirth", the tension and explosiveness of life reborn, so it was changed into a three-dimensional design after a careful consideration. The first challenge to the handcrafting of this set is polishing. This is because this set of jewelry has a lot of curves that make polishing the inside very challenging. The second challenging aspect is the pave setting. This set of jewelry has many different surfaces. During the setting process, the craftsman needs to finish one surface before moving on to the next, and so on… The third challenge is plating. We used two different colors while plating this set. NAME: Zoe Zong PROFILE: Zoe Zong is a modern jewelry design company, with focused on creating both custom-made high-end jewelry as well as handcrafted, original designs. The designer, Zoe Zong, has received her bachelors degree from Beijing Film Academy, majoring in animation. Previously she served as an Art Director in many different game companies around LA area, and she has been developing her profession in design constantly. In her designs, she always challenges herself, and explores different ways of creation. Her career of jewelry design was established by her efforts of creating artistic products. In 2014, she founded two jewelry brands, ZIGGY and ZOEZONG. The three important spirits of these two brands are Vitality, Nature, and Creativeness, as Zoe loves traveling with her beloved dog Ziggy, and gets inspired by iconic sceneries, unique architectures, paintings, and sculptures. Zoe has achieved a successful career of jewelry design with appearances in: Sina VOGUE Network YOKA Onlylady ChinaLuxus Tencent Fashion Network In 2016, ZOE won the silver award of A' Design in an Italian Annual International Design competition. |
