DESIGN NAME: Keep London Moving
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Educational Card Game
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the game was the London Underground network with its iconic design. And here is where the fabulous story of the "Tube" begins. In 1863 in London, the world's first underground railway was opened. Soon after that, new underground lines were introduced. In 21st century, the London Underground is one of the most famous public transport systems in the World with a design icon that has become an incredible part of London's history and culture.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Keep London Moving is an exciting card game about the London Underground network. During the game, players collect cards to achieve a connection between five continuous stations. The simple task is complicated by fortune cards, which players may use to change the gameplay. Very simple rules and unexpected twists bring excitement, fun and challenge for all players. The game also teaches fair play and educates players about the London Underground network. So simple. Play once. Teach others!
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The game is divided into turns, in which you collect Station Cards and try to construct a connection between them. Connected cards can go from your hand into the Play Field. When you achieve the connection between 5 continuous stations, you win the game! But don’t think it’s so simple! Other players may interrupt you by using Fortune Cards, which may cause for ex. Tube Strike or Signal Failure. The gameplay can change unexpectedly. How exciting it is!
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2016 in London and the final game tests finished in March 2017 in London. The game was tested for 6 months.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The cards' graphic was designed using mathematical rules and proportions, based on the Golden Ratio (around 1:1,618) and Fibonacci Numbers (1,1,2,3,5,8 etc.). Knowledge and understanding of the principle design rules allowed the designer to create a unique, user friendly interface. All graphics were inspired and designed in close connection with the London Underground design standards. In addition, the famous New Johnston font has been used, which makes the cards unique in their design.
CHALLENGE: The first challenge was to collect all the information and fit it within the 63 x 88 mm cards, whilst making it clearly visible. Also, unique features of each station had to be captured on photos. The game uses Transport for London Intellectual Property Rights, so the use of iconic symbols, such as the Roundel, and the New Johnston font had to agree with TfL's IPR Department guidelines. The final challenge is to collect funds to bring the game into the market.
