| DESIGN NAME: Sapfo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Extra Virgin Olive Oil INSPIRATION: The name Sapfo is inspired by the poetess Sappho, the tenth muse according to Plato, born in Mytilene (Lesvos). UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Sapfo Extra virgin olive oil is a unique olive oil, meticulously collected from the mountains and dry areas of Mytilene (Lesvos). The net is hand-knitted and unique for every bottle. Semantically, it refers to the care and beautifying techniques that women in ancient times used for their hair, accentuating our attention to detail and quality, which also applies to the collection of our olive oil. The shape of the tag of the bottle was inspired by ancient pottery pieces. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Interaction occurs through the matte painting of the glass and the colors carefully selected as a direct reference to the dark olive itself and the golden flow of physical olive oil. The whole concept is based on this interaction with nature. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2016 in Athens and finished in March 2017 and was exhibited in Detrop 26th International Exhibition of Food in Thessaloniki. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Glass, Thread. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 77mm x Height 180mm, 500ml. Silkscreen print on glass. TAGS: Packaging, Design, Sapfo, Papadellis, Evoo, Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After a meeting with the producer, a small family company in Lesvos island, a detailed brief was made based on a list of questions to identify the company culture and procedure of the production. Research based on the history of island and heritage. The name Sapfo is inspired by the poetess Sappho, the tenth muse according to Plato, born in Mytilene (Lesvos). A final presentation was made as the result of product and market survey, detail analysis and mockups to ensure the unique characteristics of the product. CHALLENGE: The given name Sapfo is inspired by the poetess Sappho, the tenth muse according to Plato, born in Mytilene (Lesvos). Connecting a historical personality with a local product with simplicity and clarity was the biggest challenge. The net is hand-knitted and unique for every bottle. Semantically, it refers to the care and beautifying techniques that women in ancient times used for their hair, accentuating our attention to detail and quality, which also applies to the collection of our olive oil.
