| DESIGN NAME: Midtown Restaurant PRIMARY FUNCTION: Brewery Bar INSPIRATION: There were two separated different restaurant ideas from the client in the beginning; one was a tapas restaurant and the other was a craft beer bar. The two of them were combined and became one big restaurant to create synergy with each other. A space like a brewery factory where guest can be entertained and dine was our inspiration. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Two sections of a restaurant are connected. Both areas can be easily accessed but also good for a separated use. Brewery tanks that have been installed in the bar area are not only aesthetically beautiful, but also produce fresh beers. Guest can enjoy craft beers in this brewery space. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Since the two restaurants was combined, they won't just function as one type of a restaurant or a bar, but create a synergistic place together. As the two areas are easily accessible to each other, the tapas restaurant will be able to serve fresh drinks from the brewery bar, and the brewery bar also can provide fine meals from the kitchen. Even outside terrace seats can also be opened and used together with the bar area. Live bands can perform music in the center of the brewery restaurant and bring life into the space. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: All the furniture, pipes, lighting fixtures, and arts are custom-made. The beer tanks and elaborated piping are stored in the beautiful glass cases and brewing beers. In addition to brewery equipment, imitation pipes and handles are added to enhance the feature and emphasize the character. Fine gold colors of details are accented to bring a luxury atmosphere. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The all area is about 830 square meters, and there are 300 seats in this restaurant. TAGS: industrial, luxury, brewery, lighting, synergy RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Being located in suburb of China, creating a topical restaurant for locals was a key. This city has been developing, and making a new concept of a restaurant could create a new market in the community. Drinking brewed beers with good tapas in a space like factory will be an exceptional experience. Chinese design details are also accented throughout the restaurant as well. Custom-made furniture and artworks hanged up on the wall impose eastern feel. This place was created to be an iconic place for Hangzhou, China. CHALLENGE: As exposing functional feature, it was our challenge to elevate it to the level of installation art. Not only creating a functional brewery restaurant, but also guests can drink beers while being surrounded by the mechanical tanks and pipes. As using those elements as art materials, this restaurant transformed to a big installation art space with active functionality.
