RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There was not any specific research performed for the design of this necklace. There were explorations as to how to shape the piece to hang properly. Several paper mock-ups were created to test different shapes for fit.
CHALLENGE: The major hurdle while designing Sleeping Beauty was getting the shape planned so that the piece would drape properly on the wearer, and maintain the heart shape when not worn. There were two very difficult challenges with the production of this piece. The first challenge was to roll out such a large sheet of silver clay, and gain a clean impression from the mold. Then, once the top and underside of the front and back were molded, making sure the fragile clay dried in the correct shape so that the top and underside would match for joining together.
