| DESIGN NAME: YRH_CT PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee Table INSPIRATION: YRH_CT or “You are here: coffee table” is an abstract repurposing of the icon used in Apps to show your location. We all use this shape in our everyday lives, it’s interesting to see it as a three dimensional product. The graphic quality of the shape is identifiable, practical, and it also serves as a physical locater! If you’re looking at the table, “you are here”, pun intended… The bowl shape adds another dimension to the table as well another useful surface. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The most interesting quality to the YRH_CT is that the shape is recognizable, interesting due to the "bowl" feature, and the off-set legs of the base to accommodate stability for the squared off corner. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: it is a fun, and practical coffee table. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The YRH_CT started in February of 2016 in Seattle, and finished in May 2016 in Seattle. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The production of the top slab is realized by laying up the blank properly to be routed by the CNC machine. The slab requires care due to the thickness required. The Icon that locates your place in the world is ubiquitous. I liked the idea of transforming the icon into a product that fun to live with and a great locator to where you are.
