| DESIGN NAME: Sunthetic PRIMARY FUNCTION: Solar case charger for iPhone INSPIRATION: We came upon this project by trying to combine technology with renewable energy. We believe in bringing renewable energy into hands of the people to overcome reluctance and to make them trust and rely on sun powered products. The design inspiration came from dis balanced forms and line construction that we see in most today's super cars. In our research we saw the possibility to make the best possible combination between technical functionalities and design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The case is made for iPhone type 6 and 7 which have distinctive design properties. They are very unique. With our design we tried to follow design language of iPhone. Our goal was to make the design slim as possible with design features and elements like simple lines and smooth surfaces. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Sunthetic solar case uses the best Sunpower mono crystalline solar panel. It recharges the incorporated battery altogether with the battery of the phone itself. The interaction with the case and its function is simplified by activating the accelerometer sensor which acts like a on and off button. It is activated by turning and taping the solar panel with a finger. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2015 in Belgrade. The product was presented for the first time at Web Summit in Lisbon in November 2016. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: injection molded GREEN ABS-PC and recycled ABS SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 72mmX152mmX14mm TAGS: solar, panels, green technology, iphone, telephone battery, telephone case, iphone accesories, green materials, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Existing battery case designs, flaws and strengths. Finding the best possible solutions that current technology provides. Comparative analysis of existing technologies. Internet available data, direct contact to research labs and manufacturers. Sunpower mono crystalline solar panel and Li-Po battery proved best. Increased usability. We are fulfilling the users need for more energy in a sustainable way. We are investigating bio plastics and non toxic materials and methods to reduce the carbon footprint. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to design a small object to be well shaped and appealing to end users. The fact that the case was developed for iPhone made the development process more complex due to strict regulations by the Apple Company. Another challenge was to be in line with iPhone design guidelines which was also a an immense constrain.
